Mercury Remote Control Plugs

  • What does it do?:

Allows you to switch on and off devices through a remote control.

  • What’s the problem?:

If your plugs are hard to reach you can use the remote control to switch device on and off.

  • What our testers liked:

Plugs come preprogrammed so are easy to set up though the order of steps is a little confusing

Plugs feel solid and robust and are numbered to correspond to the remote

Buttons on the remote are clear

  • What our testers disliked:

When in use the plug on the appliance protrudes considerably and would not sit snugly behind a piece of furniture

  • What is interesting:
  • Would have been good to have a label next to each button on the remote so that people would know what they were switching on and off.
  • These would be good to put into home at an early enough stage to form a habit that might persist if dementia manifests.
  • What our testers said:

The group felt this would be useful for those with reduced mobility to help avoid falls when trying to reach awkward sockets.

  • Manufacturer:

  • Approximate cost: £25
